If you’re looking for stories and reflections that impact lives, including mine, this is a book you should check out.
Sam Rowland has compiled stories from 10 people who originate from diverse cultures, experiences and lives in general. One character that rings the standard among all these lives is their resilience.
It is said that you can never truly know if one is committed to something until one faces inauspicious circumstances without faltering in their commitment. These people have shown more than resilience. Oh, how powerful these stories are. They did what was not expected. When all is said and done, these people lived full lives. They went beyond their limits.
The one story that reached out to me deeper than I expected was the story on page 11. In chapter 3, we are introduced to a 16-year-old girl called Valencia who lost her right leg in a car accident when she was 7 years old. This was a story of her engaging in an amphitheater show of a dance in which she did so well. The story is amazing. I remember the question she posed:
‘’The music is playing, but it plays for such a short time. What is keeping you from dancing?”
_Valencia (the dancer)
These words have helped me consider what I am able to do to add value to everyone I meet. Not letting the chance I have go to waste.
There is one more thing I realized Sam didn’t consider. Of the 10 stories, one person who seemed constant throughout was himself (Sam Rowland). Though he shares a bit about himself, I felt like his life is even more inspiring having met all these wonderful people and learning from them. I admire the life he has been able to live.
This book will take you out of self-pity and raise you to true value and worth by rising above your limitations. This is a magical experience set on true life stories.
