Growth is your best guarantee that tomorrow gets better.
“Comparing yourself to others is really just a needless distraction. The only one you should compare yourself to is you. Your mission is to become better today than you were yesterday. You do that by focusing on what you can do today to improve and grow.”
― John C. Maxwell
It is in the nature of man to want to grow, to become better, to seek superiority, to reach higher heights. This innate desire is the engine that has motivated almost all of mankind’s advancements, from the light bulb, malaria cure, the planes, to Madonna della Pieta, the moon travel, just to mention a few. This is the purpose of this article; defining what this engine, this growth is.
Growth is an increase, a gain, a rise or a boost in size or to become more advance or developed. From this word we get ‘grow’ which is a process or a journey. It is ‘becoming’. You cannot become (something) in a flash. Not in the moment. If you planted a bean seed right now, it wouldn’t ‘become’ a bean plant in that moment. It can only ‘start to be’ by first of all dying and germinating from within as it grows out of the soil.
Therefore, growth is a process that involves time. Enough time to change. And by ‘changing’, meaning ‘to exchange one thing for another, to become different, or better’.
In our case, growth can be ‘Personal’ or ‘Corperate’. Personal growth simply means an individual’s growth where they decide on this journey by themselves. Corperate growth is one that involves more than one individual. This could be a team, a family, an organization’s staff or employees among others.
“The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is.” – C.S. Lewis.
Time is critical for growth to occur. Be that as it may, time itself will never cause any growth. “Time will tell” is a popular saying that is incorrectly used to predict future improvement. Growth is the only guarantee that tomorrow gets better. Time does not guarantee that you will get better, only that you will get older. For a promised success in any area of your life, growth is indispensable. This is why growth is important.
Everyone has hope for a better future regardless of the area of interest. However, hope is not a strategy. There has to be definite intentionality to make that future better by daily focusing on your personal or corporate growth. What you do daily determines whether you continue to increase towards a better future or if you are derailing the same future you desire to have.
Consequently, deliberate move toward your personal (or corporate) growth is the first step towards creating a tomorrow that you will be proud of. Your desire for success, for your vision to succeed, your intentional want to get better, your conscious decision for an already foreseen tomorrow requires a better you.
Decide today to change your future and guarantee your success by growing every day.
Thank you Mr.Odhiambo for always reminding us to keep embracing self growth.
I can attest that once you make a personal decision that you want to improve yourself and be better, nothing can stop you.
You are right. That is a truth that is sustained by an internal fortitude, a personal self-discipline.
