In the heart of a dry land, there lived a young elephant named Tembo. Though he came from a line of wise elders who spoke of the Great River that never ran dry, Tembo had never seen it himself.
The elders told stories of how their tusks were shaped by the mist of its waters, and how strength flowed through them when they bathed in its currents. āItās real,ā they said. āItās where we meet the Source.ā But to Tembo, it was just thatāa story.
“Sometimes, the driest places are what lead us to the deepest encounters with God.”
One season, the land grew unbearably dry. The puddles shrank. The leaves curled. The animals began whispering, wondering if the River had dried up too.
Temboās thirst grew unbearable. He tried everything: licking dew from cactus, digging in the sand, chewing bark. But nothing satisfied. His tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth. His strength began to fail.
Then one night, he had a dream. In it, he saw a faint shimmer far beyond the hills. A voice echoed:
āCome. I am real. I am waiting.ā
When he woke, something inside him stirred. Though heād never traveled beyond the plains, Tembo set off alone. The journey was harsh. He bruised his legs on rocks. He stumbled. He got lost. Others mocked him: āChasing mist, Tembo? Youāll die of thirst before you find what isnāt there.ā
“Those who seek Him with all their heart will never be left wandering forever.” ā Based on Jeremiah 29:13
But something kept drawing him.
Finally, after days that felt like years, Tembo crested a hillāand there it was. The Great River. Wide. Deep. Alive. Not a tale. Not a memory. A presence.
He charged into its waters, weeping and drinking all at once. And in that moment, he knew. The River was not just water. It was Life. It was Truth. And he had met the One the elders spoke of.
When Tembo returned, he wasnāt the same. His eyes carried a depth. His footsteps were firm. And now, when the young ones asked if the River was real, he didnāt speak of stories.
He said, āCome and see.ā
Any lesson?
Knowing about God is like hearing stories of a river. But encountering God is when you leave the safety of whatās familiar, follow the thirst in your soul, and meet Him for yourself. That encounter changes everything.
“The thirsty soul will always find the streamāif it dares to follow the light.”
Here is a perfect addition to our story;
āWhat or Who is God?ā
This is a question people have wrestled with for generations, and it deserves more than just a quick answer.
Many people hold different views based on their experiences, culture, or emotionsāand I respect that. But as a follower of Christ, let me share what I believe from both Scripture and personal experience.ā
God is not just a force, an idea, or a feeling. God is a Personāeternal, holy, loving, and just. He is the Creator of everything, yet He desires a relationship with us.
In the Bible, He reveals Himself as our Father, our Savior, and our HelperāFather through creation, Son through Jesus Christ, and Spirit through His presence in us today. He is truth, love, light, and lifeāand not distant, but deeply personal.ā
I donāt claim to know everything about Godābut I do know this: when I surrendered my life to Him, everything changed. Not always easier, but clearer, deeper, freer.
For me, God is the One who gives life meaning, identity, direction, and hope beyond this world. And I believe He wants to be known by every one of usānot forced, but freely.
Including all of you. I am so proud that you have gotten the chance to learn about this.
Enjoy a perfect future.
“In every soul, thereās a Temboālonging, searching, aching for something more.”
